What Smallbean is looking for in a digital camera
Does your camera work? Is the resolution 4 megapixels or greater? If it's less than 4 megapixels, is it still in fabulous wonderful condition and you think that it would just be a crying shame not to use it as part of the Citizen Archivist Project in Karatu this January? Do you still have the power cord to charge the camera (if applicable)? Do you still have the cord that connects the camera to the computer?
Hurray, my digital camera qualifies
Please click the "Donate Now" tab below to get started with the donation process. If you have functioning memory cards that go with the camera, we can use them too! Please remember to erase all photos from both the camera memory and any memory cards.
I'm not sure if Smallbean can use my digital camera
We're here to help. Just click the Donate Now tab below and tell us about your camera. Someone from Smallbean will get back to you shortly and we can come up with a solution so that your camera can support Smallbean. In many cases, even if Smallbean can't take your camera to Africa, we can work with a company called Gazelle that will accept your camera and then donate its value back to Smallbean. We can then use the proceeds to support the Smallbean Citizen Archivist Project in Africa. So click the Donate Now button below and lets get this process rolling.

What Smallbean is looking for in an MP3 player
The MP3 players that Smallbean is collecting are going to be used by the Citizen Archivist Project as digital tape recorders. Pop in a simple $5 microphone to most iPods and they become handheld recording devices. Cool beans.
For more information from Apple, please click here. And if you have a Zune or other brand of MP3 player, the ability to record voice memos varies wildly. If you aren't sure about what you old MP3 player can do, please contact Smallbean and we'll see what we can figure out.
Hurray, my MP3 player qualifies
Please click the "Donate Now" tab below to get started with the donation process. Please include all power and computer connection cords that came with the MP3 player. Additionally, please be sure to erase all music, movies, photos, etc. off of the device.

Laptop Computer
We are seeking one good laptop. Search the basement, but there is some fine print.
Still need: 1
What Smallbean is looking for in a laptop
We'll be using this laptop to create a solar-powered computer lab in Karatu, Tanzania. Smallbean loves solar power, but solar power doesn't love all laptops. We're looking for highly energy efficient laptop computers to use as part of the Citizen Archivist Project. For those who know a thing or two about electricity, we're generally looking for laptops that consume less than 25 watts of average power.
Hurray, my laptop qualifies
You think you're laptop qualifies? Awesome. Please click the "Donate Now" tab below and let's get started.

Something else to donate?
Do you have an old cellphone? PDA? Playstation? GPS navigational system? Satellite Radio? Camcorder? Something else we can't think of? Click the info button below.
Still need: What do you have?
Can Smallbean use my TomTom? What about my Playstation 2?
Smallbean is a new organization and we're starting small. This means that we can't use everyone's old gadgets as part of the Citizen Archivist Project in Karatu. Besides, it's very likely that no one in Tanzania wants your old GPS navigation system. But that doesn't mean that your old stuff can't support Smallbean! In many cases, even if we can't take your electronics to Africa, we can work with a company called Gazelle that will accept your old gadgets and then donate their value back to Smallbean. Your donations to Smallbean are tax deductible and we can use the proceeds to support the Smallbean Citizen Archivist Project in Africa. You never thought your old Playstation could be so useful, did you?
Just click the Donate Now tab below and tell us what you have to donate. Someone from Smallbean will get back to you shortly and we can come up with a solution so that your old gadgets can support Smallbean.

Memory
The gadgets used by the Citizen Archivist Project require memory. Do you have some GB's?
Still need: Lots and lots
What Smallbean is looking for in our memory?
Well, first we'd like to get some of those memories from college back. But besides that, we need memory to record the data generated by the Citizen Archivist Project. We need CompactFlash memory. We need SecureDigital (SD) memory. We need USB flash drives. We need portable hard drives. We can also use XD Picture Cards, Sony Memory Sticks, MicroDrive cards, and SmartMedia cards. If you have some memory sitting around the house growing dust beards, the best thing to do is click the "Donate Now" tab below and tell Smallbean what you have. We'll respond promptly and let you know if we can use your memory.

Rechargable Batteries
Do you have rechargeable batteries itching for Africa? Click through for details.
Still need: It depends
Why Rechargeable Batteries?
Electronics require batteries and we're looking for rechargeable batteries to help the gadgets that make the Citizen Archivist Project run hold a charge in Africa. Additionally, when the sun is shining, the solar system stores its excess charge in rechargeable batteries which can then be used at night or during the rainy season to power computers or other electronic items in the Citizen Archivist Project.
What batteries does Smallbean need?
Do you have any rechargeable batteries that you think might be suitable? Please let us know what you have and we'll get back to you right away and let you know if we can use them at part of the Citizen Archivist Project pilot in Karatu.

$25 Donation to Smallbean
Help Smallbean build computer labs in Africa, one solar suitcase at a time. Or two. Or three. Or four...
Still need: Your support!
Why Smallbean needs your dollars
While Smallbean's use of your donated electronics to operate the Citizen Archivist Project keeps our expenses low and the excitement level for your old iPod quite high, there are lots of expenses associated with the pilot project that require plain old money. For example, the fabulous solar suitcases that we're bringing along to Karatu. These amazing devices will be used to power the Citizen Archivist Project and then be installed at the schools in Karatu as part of permanent computer labs. Pretty darn neat, but also not free unfortunately. In total, it's going to cost $15,000 to operate the Citizen Archivist Project this January, and we'd love your help to make it happen. For all the details on the finances, please check out our Citizen Archivist Project business plan by clicking here.
How can I donate?
If you'd like to make a donation in a $25, $50 or $100 denomination, please click on the corresponding TV icon in the Cluster Collection Module (which you obviously just did if you're reading this) and then click the "Donate Now" tab below. You'll be taken to the secure Smallbean PayPal donation site. And it you want to donate a little more money or a little less money (every last dollar is enormously appreciated), please click the "Donate a Different Amount" icon in the Cluster Collection Module. You'll also be taken to the PayPal donation site and you can decide how much you want to give.
